Craving Control: Why I Struggle to Let Go

Why Does it Matter?

Control is the power to influence or direct people’s behavior or the course of events. It can be something craved by the individual who seeks to be led by their flesh to gain desires only suited to benefit them or their circumstances. You can acquire control through manipulation or through surrender. My current battle lies in trying to seek control whilst also asking God to take control. You cannot have both, and I fear to admit it’s driving me to go back and forth between what I know is right and what I want to be right.

Manipulation feeds the ego, and surrender sparks the soul. Surrendering feels like a free-fall, it’s the spiritual efforts of sky diving where the exhilaration is lacking because you’re not sure if the parachute is working. But God says that He is our Sheperd, and I need him now to correct my desire to want to do what only He can. Isn’t faith to trust even when we don’t know the fruits of the outcome.

The Leap That’s Contemplated

Through everything, God grants grace. We cannot deny that it is because of Him that I am living the life I live. I can do all things through Christ, but why when He says to move… I make excuses as to “not yet”. You contradict your faith when you claim to have it and allow fear to be a weapon against Gods word. They tell us that there’s nothing He won’t call us to that He won’t get us through. I believe He has anointed me, but I cannot believe I am questioning the calling. Am I refusing the call to the greater He’s daring to give me?

“If it had not been for the shaking, I never would’ve been ready for the making. If it had not been for the beating I would’ve never knew how anointed I would be. If it had not been for the pressing, I wouldn’t be able to walk into my destiny” God is preparing you for greater, feeling low doesn’t mean you’re without God. You could possibly be in the potters house being molded into exactly who He has called you to be.

What if What We’re Feeling is Formation

The journey of the anointed is not to take lightly. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 declares “We are hard-pressed on every side but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed.” There comes a time in life where we begin to live the paradox Paul describes. Through the free fall of surrender, Gods light breaks through the darkness of uncertainty. Gods glory is revealed not through our doubt or grip but through his illumination. Remember that your fragility is not flawed, it’s the vessel used by God to display His power. Paul’s words are here to show that affliction is not abandonment, it’s preparation.

You’re being carved into purpose. Your request to God now and forevermore should be for Him to change your identity. Full-fledged faith in Him rewards the ascension you’ve been searching for. God is waiting for you to respond. He sends His spirit to go where you go, and still, you look for answers in all the wrong places. God will strengthen you; He will provide you the answers you seek. In this time, be encouraged to be pulled by Him in his embrace and run to Him knowing He is the way and the light.

Breathe through the molding, trusting the hands of the potter and declare “This is not my breaking, this is my becoming.”

So, ask Him, not just for direction but for a new identity. Faith that soars, requires a faith that dies, to self, to fear, and to the illusion of control. God is waiting not on your perfection, but for your permission.
