The Tension Between Desire and Devotion

The moments in life when our dreams, relationships or ambitions can become all we think about, may also be our downfall. These desires become the same things that pull us furthest from God.

I’ve learned that sometimes what I want and what God wills for me are not the same thing. If I’m honest, there were seasons where my desires and habits didn’t align with who He destined me. Such a shame we spend so long on detours because we haven’t leaned on God for the vision.

Reflection: The Struggle to Surrender

There is peace in His presence. It took me true faith to realize that. Now in my faith walk, I’ve learned that seeking God isn’t just about seeing Him; it’s about your posture. It focuses on your humility, reverence and willingness to prioritize Him over everything else.

When I reference Matthew 6:33, I’m reminded that Gods provision flows when I make Him my first choice, not my last resort.

Once I began to intentionally seek Him first, everything else begun to find its rightful place. This could be something as simple as, waking up in the morning and finding scripture to read. Meditating on His word or dedicating a journal entry to Him. One of my favorites is getting up and playing worship. Create an alter for God, spend time with Him before starting your day. The possibilities that flow from that simple interaction could impact your day!

A Prayer for Posture

Father God,

I come to you today in a posture of surrender. Help me to realign my heart with Your will. Rearrange my day-to-day routine so that I may exalt you before going out into the world. When I start to chase the things that pull me away, draw me closer to you instead. Grant me the opportunity in which my desires begin to align with Your will for my life. Teach me that provision and peace flow not from what I control, but from what I surrender.
